Flickr
This picture below reminds me of my recent vacation to Myrtle Beach. I probably would use Flickr if I did alot of photography and needed the space to hold my photos rather than on my harddrive. Otherwise I would prefer to use iphoto. I found the whole process of getting the account, uploading someone else's free image rather long and somewhat frustrating. I admit to being somewhat confused on the uploading process through blogger but did read the instructions there. I ended up just uploading the photo from Flickr, (Creative Commons section) choosing the size, downloading the image onto my computer and uploading the image from there onto my blog. Lots of lovely photos on Flickr. In my opinion it must also be frustrating having to e-mail the person who submitted a photo to get their permission for use of a particular photo you really would like housed outside of Creative Commons. Could be a long wait. Would rather use my own photo or choose a photo from a free image service or from something like Print Shop. I think I am not yet sold on this?? Any opinions fellow bloggers??

Really great comments, Birdie. I have never heard of iPhoto, but will check it out ASAP.
I think you raise a lot of good points here, and I like that you've solicited feedback from your fellow bloggers. Love the networking!
To play "devil's advocate", for those students working from the library--i.e. students without a home comptuer, and presumably without a digitial camera as a digital camera generally requires a computer--a service like Flickr can be beneficial. Without a home computer, you can't upload images (well, not as easily), save things to the hard drive, etc.
I unfortunately also think you're of a minority, Birdie, in that a lot of people consider any image they find online to be "free". Meaning they feel they can save and use these images without giving credit where credit is due. You are right to remind us that there are many "free image services".
This is one of the reasons I chose Flickr. I always like to promote applications that enourage us to think about where something is coming from, or that allows us to give credit to those who have done the work. Creative Commons is something that most might not have heard of, but that is growing in popularity. Not to mention need!
Thanks for your comments Library Lady. IPhoto is a mac application. I can see the value of using Flickr with students/adults who have no access to a home computer thanks for suggesting that side of things. Didn't consider that. As a teacher it is essential to teach children the importance of acknowledging sources/copyright thus my interest in that area, albeit difficult to monitor. I would like to spend more time looking at Flickr as I think the advanced search button might also prove helpful to narrow down searches and help speed up the process.
I'm totally with you on the copyright thing! In fact, that has been popping into my head on just about every exercise we've done so far! At this stage, I'm just a bit overwhelmed by the amount of "stuff" out there, and the many ways of accessing it... I can't help but wonder how it's all paying for itself, and when we'll see some consolidation...
